This book contributes to the exploration of cross-cultural exchanges in American art and culture. It contains seven scholarly essays and 150+ images of Robert, John, and Julian Weir, three prominent 19th/20th-c. American artists. They were inspired by European art traditions and regularly crossed the Atlantic to access them. However, they were leaders in American art, with Robert teaching at West Point, John founding a college art program at Yale, and Julian being a major American Impressionist.
Their works span a century of European and American painting genres. Through letters, diaries, and histories, this book dives into their explorations beyond the Hudson River Valley, to London, Paris, and Rome.
