About the artwork: New York/New Wave, one of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s early works, was first exhibited at the seminal group exhibition at the MoMA P.S.1 gallery in 1981 of the same name. Basquiat designed this promotional graffiti sign for the exhibition, which featured more than 100 artists from the avant-garde New Wave scene, including Andy Warhol and Keith Haring. This exhibition is credited with launching Basquiat's career.
