When author James Baldwin died in 1987, he left behind an extraordinary body of work that included novels, poems, film scripts, and essays. A critical voice in the civil rights movement, he struggled to retain his individual identity while representing the collective. Edited by Hilton Als, God Made My Face is a tribute to Baldwin's diverse contributions to literature, cinema, and Black American studies, featuring contributions from a variety of authors and artists inspired by his work.
